Away to Azores

For my holiday this summer I went to Azores for 2 weeks which is an island in the Mid-Atlantic somewhere (not actually 100% sure) but anyway, it is West of Portugal and Portuguese is spoken there.

It was such a different place to what I have been to before and where we were staying was kind of in the middle of no where but it was quiet apart from the barking dog that would go off every 5 seconds without fail!

More about the place...
The scenery there is literally beautiful. Clear blue waters, the sun beaming down making the sea glisten and sparkle as the wind blows the waves around. It was incredibly hot, it got around 30°c with about 70-80% humidity. The humidity made it impossible to actually be outside for long amounts of time and I actually got heat-stroke at one point because I boiled over! Anyway, the house we stayed in was lovely. It had 2 bedrooms both with a double bed in and set of bunk beds that could potentially sleep 8 altogether. It had a flat screen TV in the kitchen/dining area and a walk in shower which was great. The other great part was we had a sun terrace/balcony type thing so when the sun started setting we could move from the garden up onto the terrace and still catch some rays hooray!

We went to quite a lot of the town/villages but we only stayed on one island and I actually found out towards the end that there's 8 other islands to visit! My favourite place was Ponta Delgada which is the capital of Azores and was probably the busiest place we actually visited. This made me feel better as it was nice to be around people rather than just sitting in the house surrounded by an almost ghost town. The shops were all different some very cultural as well as traditional whereas others were more contemporary and fashionable which is quite a big contrast.

My favourite part

The whale and dolphin watch was my favourite part because not only do I love to be on boats out at sea but I got to see especially dolphins the closest I've ever come to one! We saw the common dolphin, Atlantic spotted dolphin, bottled nose dolphin as well as a beaked whale.
On the way back it was hilarious because the sea was absolutely wild so that when we hit a wave the whole boat would leap up in the air and come crashing back down creating a massive splash which got everyone pretty soaked! It was literally like being on a roller-coaster of some sort!

So we went a 2nd time as we didn't see any whales on our first trip and we decided that we liked it so much that we wanted to go back to see our fishy friends! Not that we were expecting it but we managed to see 2 sperm whales along with the bottled nose and common dolphins. It's seriously amazing I loved every second of the trip and I could just watch dolphins and whales all day, they're such placid creatures and dolphins are just too cute!

Picture time!

"Bye everyone!" ^^^^

So yeah I had a really nice time in Azores and it was a whole different experience to me and the landscape is gorgeous so I definitely recommend if you like exploring beautiful landscapes because this place is a magical exploring destination!
